This is a real unique chance to be the owner of a piece of history! Although you won’t notice it at a first glance, great part of the town centre of Bevagna is built on the terraces of an ancient Roman theatre; that’s why many streets of Bevagna have a round shape. As a matter of fact, Bevagna was crossed by one of the main roads during the Roman times, Via Flaminia, which was connecting the western and eastern sides of Italy, from Rome to Rimini. Being so crowded an area, the Romans decided to build a theatre to entertain inhabitants and travellers: the theatre of Bevagna could accomodate up to 5.000 people! By the way, the pragmatism of Medieval people, led to a deep change of the theatre: they built walls between the terraces, added a roof and created houses out of the theatre.
Now it is possible to be the owner of a piece of Roman theatre: in the town centre, in front of a small square, there is an incredible townhouse on 3 floors for a total area of about 928 sqm.
On the ground floor you access directly the Roman theatre with a big wheel, which was used in the past as an hydraulic engine to move the show equipment.
On the first floor, currently, you can find a reproduction of an old medieval house and people are allowed to visit both the ground and first floor. Here, there is also a mezzanine, which can be used as a big lounge or dining room, overlooking the gallery of the Roman theatre.
Finally the top floor, where a big apartment develops with 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, 2 big lounges and a spacious kitchen. Through an external staircase, you can access the top terrace overlooking Bevagna and the surrounding countryside: the view is just breathtaking!
It is possible to keep it as it is and allow people visiting the property. On the other hand, you may decide to use the first floor as an important part of the whole property for private use.
The apartment has been beautifully and carefully restored, with great respect of the old tradition, up to the extent that all materials are made as they used to do during Medieval times.
Living in history is definitely possible in Bevagna!
