Lucca is often referred to as a secret gem and a quieter and more intimate alternative to Florence. The town is encircled by the medieval walls with foot and bicycle paths under the trees. The cobbled streets are filled with ‘gelaterie’, pastry shops and wonderful coffee shops and ‘trattorie’. Lucca has a multitude of old churches, little piazzas, towers and family businesses. Behind many of the arched doors you will glimpse vaulted passageways and beautiful internal courtyards.
