The hamlet historically always maintained a considerable strategic importance, precisely because it allowed controlling the two valleys. Marcialla is mentioned in a map of the Val d’Elsa made by Leonardo da Vinci and now preserved in the Royal Library of Windsor. Marcialla also boasts places of interest and religious buildings such as The Church of San Lorenzo in Vigliano, the Church of Santa Maria, the Palazzo Bargagli Stoffi and the Villa Capponi. The local community is very united in fact, during the summer season, they organize many village festivals in the main square.
