Less than 5 minutes from the historical centre of Longobardi which is a traditional village with local amenities including a post office, pharmacy, cafe` bar and pizzeria. Dominating the entrance to the historical centre is The Church of the Madonna dell'Assunta, known as San Francesco da Paola, dating back to the 17th century. The interior is divided into two naves connected by three large arches resting on large rectangular pillars. In the upper part, the building has a large dome, corresponding to the altar area, and three smaller ones, placed on the internal chapels of the minor nave – these are distinct features that can be seen from most vantage points in the historical centre.
On 7th June 1824 Luigi Miceli, a prominent politician was born there. He studied law and later, Miceli himself became Minister of Agriculture, Industry and Commerce during the Cairoli government from 1879-1881, and of the Crispi government from 1888-1891.
There is a marina front on the coast at Longobardi where you can find a further selection of shops, cafe` bars, a gelateria, supermarkets and restaurant/pizzerias along with a variety of beach lidos during the summer months.
The town of Amantea is a short drive away and is a small and busy town with all the modern amenities: variety of shops and boutiques, café bars, restaurants/pizzeria, gelatarias, pharmacies, post office etc. which blends well with the charming old historical centre where you can wander through the traditional narrow streets and enjoy the true feel of Calabria. The marina beach front offers beach bars and lidos and a small Acqua Park, children’s play area and a variety of seasonal activities. It also hosts many festivals and fieras during the year and a daily market selling locally grown fruit and vegetables.
The Property is also conveniently positioned to explore many other traditional villages, taking advantage of seasonal activities such as mountain biking at Belmonte Calabro, kite surfing at Gizzeria, rafting at Scalea to name a few. The stunning National Park of La Sila is approx. 1 ½ hour drive away, where you can take advantage of the many year-round activities that are on offer, including walking, pony trekking, quad bikes and in the winter months, skiing. Within easy reach via the Autostrada A3 are towns such as Capo Vaticano, Scilla to name but a few, also Reggio Calabria where you will find the Museum that houses the Bronzes of Riace among many other articles of archaeological interest.
